Our preferred scenic route
Lemosho Route
The Lemosho route is one of the newer routes on Kilimanjaro and a superb choice for your climb. It is our preferred route thanks to its ideal balance of low traffic, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate. Most of our clients use this route and love it.
Approaching from the west, Lemosho crosses the entire Shira Plateau from west to east — unlike Machame, which merely intersects it. Climbers enjoy low traffic until the route joins the Machame route, after which it follows the southern circuit through Lava Tower, Barranco and Barafu. Descent is via the Mweka route.
Lemosho is considered the most scenic route on Kilimanjaro, granting panoramic vistas on various sides of the mountain. It is offered as an eight-day group climb or a seven to eight day private climb.

Day by day
We depart Moshi for Londorossi Gate (about 4 hours) for entry formalities, then drive to the Lemosho trailhead. After lunch we trek through undisturbed forest that winds to the first camp.
We follow the trail out of the forest into a savannah of tall grasses, heather and volcanic rock draped with lichen. Ascending through lush rolling hills and crossing streams, we reach Shira Ridge before dropping gently to Shira 1 camp. The view of Kibo across the plateau is amazing.
A gentle walk east across the Shira plateau — one of the highest plateaus on earth — toward Kibo's glaciered peak, then on to the little-used Moir Hut at the base of Lent Hills, an excellent acclimatisation opportunity.
We head east up a ridge then south-east towards the Lava Tower, reaching the Arrow Glacier junction at 16,000 ft before descending to Barranco Hut. Ending where you began in altitude, this day is key for acclimatisation.
A short acclimatisation day over the Barranco Wall to Karanga Valley campsite, leaving you well rested before the summit push.
We meet the Mweka Trail junction and continue to Barafu Hut, completing the South Circuit. Make camp, rest and prepare for summit night.
Around midnight we head north-west between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, ascending heavy scree towards Stella Point (18,600 ft) — the most challenging part of the trek. From Stella Point a one-hour ascent brings you to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa and a magnificent sunrise. We then descend to Mweka Hut, stopping at Barafu for lunch.
After breakfast we continue down to Mweka Gate to receive your summit certificates. A vehicle meets you at Mweka village to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi for a hot shower and celebration.
